[REC]---July 14, 2009

Like this better than Quarantine because of Manuela Velasco. Hope the Making of Featurette is the 40 minute version from the R2 release.

No BD? Weak. I never saw Quarantine, but I did think this was pretty good. Might grab it for the right price.

Don't bother, it was shit. Another dumbed down remake.

I haven't seen [REC] yet (but looking forward to it and this is good news) so I can't make a direct comparison, but enjoyed Quarantine.

Quarantine is pretty much the same film as [REC] just with an uglier female lead.

Quarantine is much better than {REC] . Having said that [REC] is still a really good horror film and I am glad I got the R2 edition which has much better bonus features.

Not really
Spoiler:
they completely removed the religious/possessed aspect of the film and replaced it w/ rabies (?)

which in turn completely ruined the ending of Quarantine. And the deaths were less brutal.

Liked both for different reasons. Quarantine for the more updated look and effects but REC was good for its more low budget feel.

Agree with KillerCannibal, a little bummed there is no BD for this. The current [REC] Blu-Ray (Import) is Region Locked I believe.

I'll probably pass on this release. Already have the 2-Disc R2 I picked up last year.

Loved Quarantine. Will pick this up as I want to judge for myself how the 2 compare to each other.

Re: [REC]---July 14, 2009

Always wanted to see this, but pretty pissed about no Blu. Quarantine (Blu-Ray) is buried in one of my unwatched piles, so hopefully I'll get to see Rec before watching Quarintine.

Good that its finally getting a release over here. I doubt I'll upgrade my Canadian release that I got for free from a Fango contest though.

So far I've heard [REC] beats it hands down, but from someone who also loved Quarantine, I am looking forward to this release.

That's all i've heard around here as well, but the problem is this is a forum dominated by people who hold biases against remakes which is something I don't do. I doubt very seriously that I will like [Rec] better than Quarantine, but I'll find out once July 14 rolls around.

Re: [REC]---July 14, 2009

Hopefully [REC] isn't to Quarantine as Ringu was to The Ring.

Despite what everyone said on the internets, Ringu was complete and utter shit compared to The Ring.

Spoiler:
You don't tell the whole backstory to your movie by having a main character randomly say in the middle of the movie: "oh, by the way, I'm psychic! And this is what is happening..." To me, that's the equivalent to someone in the back of a theater blowing the ending to the movie.

The Ring told the story in a much more dramatic and meaningful way.

Re: [REC]---July 14, 2009

^ Agree. The Ring was much better than Ringu.

^^ I don't think that many people here are anti-remake. Well, maybe we are. But shouldn't we be? You have to admit that many of them flat out suck. Name 10 remakes that are even close to as good as the original. But a few are as good or better, ala The Ring.
